Simba is a maker that constantly innovates and every year, they will come up with a new idea. In this Simba Source mattress review, I will talk about this new entry that is built in Yorkshire with local materials.
The idea is to make a mattress that combines old-school philosophy with new tech. The Simba Source mattress is the most affordable in the ‘Earth’ range which also includes the Escape and Apex mattresses. Mine was delivered almost a week ago so it’s time to move to the full review below.
What is this mattress made of?
This mattress is made of 5 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A cushioning wool layer that can provide your body with springy comfort.
- A double hemp and flex comfort layer that adds pressure-relieving properties. This type of layer is breathable and has the ability to regulate heat.
- An Aerocoil spring layer that supports the body and reduces pressure points.
- A Quadcore sprung base offering optimum stability and defined support.
The Source mattress measures 25cm in height and the image below showcases the position of every layer.
Does it come with a nice cover?
The cover of this mattress is made of viscose wool. This is a semi-synthetic type of rayon fabric made from wood pulp. They chose this material because it feels luxurious but it’s inexpensive. Viscose is a nice silk alternative so it has a silky smooth touch. Moreover, it’s a breathable fabric and it’s made of natural materials. The cover has a clean white colour and it has a great finish. It’s actually easy to understand that this is a handcrafted cover. On the sides, they have added 4 handles that will help you move it with ease. Unfortunately, this is not a removable cover so it’s not machine-washable. If you get it stained, you can spot-clean it with a dump cloth and mild detergent. Overall, this is a high-quality cover that feels luxurious.
Is the Simba Source a firm mattress?
Let’s continue with this Simba Source mattress review and talk about its feel. This mattress is built with the average sleeper in mind so it comes with a medium-firm feel. If I use my virtual scale, I would say it’s a 6.5 with 10 being really firm. I want to talk now about my experience with it in the past week.
Lying on my back, the mattress felt quite comfortable from the beginning. The two spring layers did a good job distributing my weight and I felt well supported. There was no pressure on my joints and I didn’t feel I was sinking into it.
Turning to my side, the springs adjusted quickly and the hemp layers ensured that there was no discomfort in the hip area. My spinal alignment was neutral and support remained good.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress felt slightly softer than I would have preferred for this position but nothing too bad. In fact, the Simba Source mattress is an all-rounder and it will suit sleepers of every position.
If you share your bed with a partner, the good news is that this mattress has good edge support. That means you won’t feel that you will roll off the bed when you sleep on the edge. Additionally, the motion transfer is minimal so you won’t disturb each other during sleep.
Will I pay for delivery?
All mattresses on the ‘Earth’ range come with free VIP delivery. That means that the delivery team will set up your mattress and remove all packaging. For an extra fee (£50), they can remove your old mattress and recycle it. Moreover, the VIP delivery service allows you to choose the exact date of your delivery. This is very handy, especially for people with a busy schedule. My mattress was delivered by Rhenus Home Delivery and the service was a premium one. The couriers were very polite and they did exactly what was promised. The biggest treat for me was the disposal of the packaging which meant that I didn’t have to do it myself. Overall, I was extremely happy with their service so no complaints at all.
Can I try it before I buy it?
Although most people are now familiar with buying a mattress online, it’s always good to know that you can try your mattress. The people at Simba seem to understand that and for this reason, they offer a 200-night trial period. That gives you plenty of time to try this at home so you can decide whether this is a good fit or not. In case you are not happy with it, you can return it and get a full refund. The process is simple and you don’t have to keep the original packaging to be able to complete one. All returned mattresses are recycled, refurbished or donated.
Additionally, all Simba mattresses come with a 10-year guarantee. This covers any issues that could reasonably be said to have started with Simba. That includes foam that cracks, a faulty zip or significant dipping. This is a complete package here and Simba is a brand known for its excellent customer service.
How much does it cost?
The Simba Source mattress is handcrafted so it’s not the most affordable option out there. It’s available in 4 sizes with the smaller (Single) going for £849 and the bigger (Super King) selling for £1,499. The table below has pricing information for all available sizes.
SIZE | DIMENSIONS | PRICE |
Single | 90 x 190 x 25cm | £849 |
Double | 135 x 190 x 25cm | £1,199 |

Should I consider the Simba Source mattress?
Before I complete this Simba Source mattress review, I need to answer the above question. This mattress is ideal for those looking for:
- A hybrid mattress made in the UK with natural materials.
- A premium mattress built for every sleeping position.
- A mattress that comes with a 200-night trial period.
Simba created an interesting range here and it’s the first boxed mattress maker that has used natural materials. The Source mattress is the most affordable one and it’s a well-balanced option that will cover most needs. It comes with excellent service and support so if you are looking for a handcrafted British mattress, this is the way to go.
