There are many rolled mattress makers in the UK but Eve is definitely one of the best ones. Their Original mattress was one of the first of this kind but since then they have expanded their range. In this Eve Lighter mattress review, I will talk about their latest product and whether it’s worth your attention.
The Lighter mattress is geared towards people on a budget so what Eve tried to do here is create a mattress that would cost significantly cheaper than their other mattresses. And they definitely achieved that with the Single size selling for £299! Despite cutting costs, they still manufacture this mattress here in the UK which is great news. I got mine around 3 weeks ago so I think it’s about time now to write the full review.
Materials
The Eve Lighter mattress has a simple design. It’s made of 2 layers plus the cover. These are:
- An evecomfort layer that is there to provide your body with the needed pressure relief. It’s a very breathable material, unlike traditional memory foam.
- A supportive foam layer that is the base of this mattress. It provides your body with the needed support. The added contour zones are there to ease the pressure on your body.
This mattress is made using ISO 9001 quality standards. On top, all foams used are CertiPUR® certified which means they contain no harmful chemicals. The image below shows how each layer is positioned.
Cover
The cover of this mattress is made of 98% polyester and 2% elastane. They chose this blend for two main reasons. Polyester is a strong and breathable material. Elastane ensures that the cover will stay in place and will have a great fit for the mattress. Moreover, the cover is removable and you can machine wash it at 40 degrees. That means that it’s quite easy to clean and maintain this cover. On the other hand, polyester is not the softest material although the one found here is not that bad. The design of this cover is a nice one but not as beautiful as the cover of the Eve Original. The top and side part is white with the bottom being yellow. I think that it’s definitely geared towards younger people.
The Eve Lighter is a budget mattress so, unfortunately, you won’t find handles or an anti-slip base here. This is fine at this price point and I can live with that. Overall, I think that Eve cut the right corners here and this cover is a decent one.
Firmness & Comfort
The Eve Lighter is a typical boxed mattress. That means that is designed to suit the average sleeper. It has a medium-firm feel and I would say it’s a 6.7 on my virtual scale. I would like now to talk about the different sleeping positions and what my experience was with this mattress.
As always, I will start from the back position. The mattress ‘hugged’ my shoulders and hips and it was quite comfortable. I noticed though that pressure relief was not enough which was a bit expected from a mattress like that. My spine was properly aligned and I think the mattress performed well in this position.
Turning to the side position, sinkage increased but I felt that my spine was not well aligned. This mattress measures 19cm in height so for a heavy body (92kg) like mine I felt that it doesn’t have enough transition layers for this position. If you are lighter maybe you won’t face any problems here.
Finally moving to the stomach position, I felt that this mattress did a good job. It’s firm enough for this position and my hips were in the right place for good spine alignment. Support was good and I feel that the Eve Light is mostly designed for the back and stomach sleepers.
Regarding the edge support, don’t expect much here but this is expected from a budget mattress. However, if you share your bed with your partner then I have good news for you. The foam-only construction means that the motion transfer is minimal.
Bed type compatibility
You can place your Eve Lighter mattress on any flat surface including your floor. However, the maker suggests you either use a slatted base or a platform bed. If you use a slatted base, make sure the distance between the slats is no longer than 7cm. If you place it on your floor you should prop it on its side regularly to allow the mattress to breathe. Unfortunately, it’s not recommended to use this mattress with an adjustable bed.
Delivery & Packaging
I have already mentioned above that the Eve lighter will come packed in a box, just like the one you see in the picture below. The mattress comes with free standard delivery for all sizes. You should expect your mattress within 3 working days from the moment you place your order. You can also choose your delivery slot but this will cost you some extra quids. Depending on the product you buy you might receive your order from Yodel, Hermes, UK Mail, Tuffnells or Arrow XL. I received excellent communication from them and my mattress arrived within two days. The courier was polite and on time. This is not a heavy box so you will be able to carry this around with ease. Overall, my experience was good with them so no complaints at all.
Trial Period & Guarantee
The Eve Lighter comes with a 365-night trial period which gives you plenty of time to try this mattress. If you are not happy with your purchase, you can return it for free and get a full refund. You don’t have to keep the original packaging to be able to return this mattress. Eve will send a 2-man crew to collect the mattress from your property. Your refund will be processed within 3 days from the collection day.
The mattress also comes with a 10-year guarantee which is the norm these days. However, it’s great to see that despite the low price they still offer this type of guarantee. It’s proof of how confident they are in their manufacturing process but also how they value their customers. Overall, I think you are getting a great package here.
Mattress Pricing
One of the things I didn’t like about this mattress is the fact that it’s only available in 3 sizes. That means, that there are no EU sizes here. This is not great and I hope that Eve will change this soon. The Single size sells for £299 with the King going for £499. Of course, they run frequent promotions so before you buy you should always check my voucher code page for big savings. The table below has all the pricing details for each available size.
SIZE | DIMENSIONS | PRICE |
Single | 90 x 190 x 20cm | £299 |
Double | 135 x 190 x 20cm | £399 |
King | 150 x 200 x 20cm | £499 |
Is the Eve Lighter mattress for me?
It’s a good time now to finish this Eve Lighter mattress review. I really like when makers try to create products that are affordable to everyone. And Eve did just that with this mattress. However, I think that this mattress is ideal for anyone looking for:
- A memory foam mattress that is affordable and comes from a reputable maker.
- A mattress that is slightly firmer than the average boxed mattress.
- A mattress that comes with excellent service and support.
If you look for all these, then this can be a really good option. The lack of EU sizes can be a problem for some but if you like to sleep on your back or stomach and you don’t want to break the bank, then this might be the one for you.
