Following the trend that all these new mattress companies have established in the industry, Silentnight decided to develop Studio by Silentnight, which is their new rolled mattress. As you can imagine, it comes packed in a box and is delivered directly to your door. I received my Studio mattress last month so in this review, I would like to talk about my thoughts on that. Unlike all other rolled mattresses, Studio does not follow the “one fits all” approach and comes with 3 different comfort levels; soft, medium and firm. This is quite interesting as it gives consumers the choice. After researching online, I decided to go for the firm option which was best suited for bigger people like me. So what I will review below is the Studio by Silentnight firm mattress.
What is a Silentnight Studio mattress made of?
The Silentnight Studio is made of a total of 3 layers and the mattress cover. The 3 layers are the following:
- Top Layer: A Geltex layer which is a combination of an extremely elastic gel and air-permeable foam and has two main benefits; It keeps the mattress cool during the night but also provides a floating feeling during sleep.
- Middle Layer: A high-quality memory foam layer which supports the body and offers pressure relief to the spine and the rest of your body.
- Bottom Layer: A dense core support foam layer which works as the base of the mattress but also provides support and comfort.
The mattress also features an anti-allergenic cover, approved by Allergy UK which has a soft feel and a very cool design. I personally loved the sleeping surface of the Studio mattress. The cover is removable so you can keep it clean very easily as you can machine wash it whenever you want. Overall the design of the mattress is really modern and the materials used are of the highest quality.
How firm is the Silentnight Studio mattress?
The Silentnight Studio mattress that I received is the firm version and it actually feels like a firm one. To explain you a bit better how it feels, if we put this to a firmness scale, with 10 being very firm, I believe this mattress will be a 7.5. This is the firmest mattress I have tried so anyone who likes a really firm feeling this is a really good choice.
Let’s move now to the sleeping positions so I can give you my thoughts on how this mattress performed in each one. When lying on it on my back, I felt a mild hugging feeling with a more floating feeling which is kind of what I expected from a firm mattress. I felt that my spine was aligned properly which was great!
Turning sideways, I felt a small sinkage and I got the feeling that I was supported but in a different way due to the lack of the hugging effect. I moved to the edge of the mattress in the same sleeping position and I felt great edge support from the Studio mattress which felt really solid and steady as a whole. Moving to the stomach position I had an ideal body sinkage which felt quite nice and felt that my spine was properly aligned. In general, I found that the Studio firm mattress does extremely well in the back and stomach positions, especially if you are not of small weight like myself. In the side position, it performed well, but not as well as other memory foam mattresses. This is probably due to the firmness level of the mattress in this review so maybe the softer versions will do better in this position. However, I do like the firmer approach, matter of taste really, so I found the Studio mattress to be a very comfortable one.
Do I need a special setup?
These days you can place pretty much any mattress on any surface that is flat. Studio is not an exception and you can place it to your old frame or even the floor. In the case of a slatted base, always make sure that you use as many slats as you can to get the most of your mattress and get the best performance. The Studio mattress comes in four sizes (single, double, king and super king) but unfortunately, there are no EU sizes only UK ones.
How will it be delivered?
The Silentnight Studio mattress is delivered in a nice grey carton box like the majority of mattresses these days. They offer a two-man free delivery service for all sizes which was really helpful in my case! The delivery guys helped me set it up straight away in my room which was something that I never had with any other sellers. Overall, I was very happy with the service and having help with setting the mattress up, was a really good surprise.
Will it come with a trial period?
The Silentnight Studio mattress comes with a 5-year warranty which is less than most mattresses that I have reviewed here. However, 5 years is still a very good warranty, it’s more that we are spoiled by the standard 10-year warranty offered by others. Moreover, you have 60 nights to try this mattress and return this if you are not happy with it. Again, this is less than the 100 days offered by other brands but still, 60 days are enough to make up your mind. If you decide to return this, Silentnight will come to collect the mattress and give you a full refund.
How much does it cost?
SIZE | DIMENSIONS | PRICE |
Single | 90 x 190 x 26cm | £399 |
Double | 135 x 190 x 26cm | £599 |
King | 150 x 200 x 26cm | £699 |
Is the Silentnight mattress good for me?
Finishing another mattress review, it’s the verdict time again. Having used this mattress for about 3 weeks now I will let you know my final thoughts. The Silentnight Studio mattress is a good choice for everyone who is looking for:
- A memory foam mattress that comes in three different firmness levels so you can choose the one based on your needs.
- A mattress made of high-quality materials, coming straight to your door with excellent customer service and support.
- A mattress designed and made in the UK from a well-respected manufacturer.
If you don’t agree with the “one fits all” approach then the Silentnight Studio mattress is a great choice as you can choose the firmness that suits you better. It all comes packed in a box with a two-man delivery service that is the best I have experienced so far. If you look for these features, then this mattress should be very high on your list!
