Many people suffer from a bad back so they are looking for a way to ease the pain. In this REM-Fit 500 Elite mattress review, I discuss this orthopaedic option that will help everyone suffering from chronic back pain.
The Elite series is the premium range developed by REM-Fit and the one I review today is an improved version of the REM-Fit 500 mattress. As expected, this is a firm option but more on that later. My mattress was delivered almost ten days ago so it’s time to move to the full review below.
What is inside this mattress?
This mattress features 4 layers plus the cover. In detail, these are:
- A RemCell foam layer that has pressure-relieving properties. It’s a breathable foam that can keep the sleeping surface cool.
- A memory foam layer that will contour your body and provide you with high levels of comfort.
- A double layer of pocket springs that are quite tall (15.5cm). They are designed to minimise motion transfer but also support.
- A high-density foam layer that is the base of this mattress. It also adds support.
The REM-Fit 500 Elite mattress has a medium profile and measures 25cm in height. The image below gives us a better look of how it looks from the inside.
Does it come with a nice cover?
The cover of this mattress is made of Re-Ax fibres, a technology designed by their in-house engineering team. This is a fabric that is quite breathable which will help the sleeping surface to stay cool during the night. It’s also a durable fabric that is easy to maintain and clean. All you have to do is remove it and pop it inside your washing machine. Make sure you use a mild detergent and a gentle washing cycle.
The cover feels soft and it doesn’t lack quality. It has a nice fit and a modern design. Unfortunately, there are no side handles and this is its only weakness in my opinion. Other than that, it’s a versatile cover that won’t disappoint.
How firm is this mattress?
I want to continue writing this REM-Fit 500 Elite mattress review and discuss its feel. This is actually the firmest mattress I have tried and it’s designed for those with back problems. If I use my virtual scale here, I would say it’s an 8.5 with 10 being really firm. I want to share now my experience with it during the past ten days.
Lying on my back, the mattress felt firm but my back was well-supported. I didn’t think I was uncomfortable sleeping this way and pressure relief was adequate.
Turning to my side, the springs adjusted quickly and this allowed my spine to align correctly. Despite being a firm mattress, it didn’t cause me any discomfort in the hip area. Support remained good but this is something I expected.
Finally, moving to the stomach position, the mattress felt ideal and every front sleeper should consider getting this mattress. My hips and shoulders were well-positioned and overall, this mattress is a true all-rounder.
For those sharing your bed with a partner, this mattress has minimal motion transfer. That means that you won’t disturb each other during sleep. Moreover, the edge support is excellent thanks to the reinforced foam encasement.
Do they offer free delivery?
One of the things I hate is paying for delivery but fortunately, the people at REM-Fit value their customers. For this reason, they offer a free 2-man delivery service that will deliver your mattress within 1-3 business days. That of course depends on your proximity to their warehouse. For an extra fee, you can also have your old mattress removed which can be very handy.
When I ordered my mattress, it was delivered within 2 days and the couriers placed the box to my second bedroom. They were very helpful and I had chosen my 3-hour slot some days ago. That allowed me to schedule accordingly and my experience with them was great.
Can I try this before I buy it?
If you feel nervous about buying a mattress online, the people at REM-Fit have your back. They offer a 200-night trial period that gives you plenty of time to try this at home. This is one of the longest trials out there and if you are not happy with it, you can return it and get a full refund. I have to mention here that you don’t need to keep the original packaging to be able to complete a return.
